The College of Life Science (CLS) and the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry (DMAC), Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), warmly welcomed a delegation from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Chennai, India, on June 12, 2026, for an academic collaboration discussion held at the N935 Meeting Hall, KMU. The visit aimed to strengthen international academic partnerships and explore interdisciplinary research and educational collaborations between the two institutions.

The visiting delegation from SRMIST included distinguished academic leaders and faculty members: Prof. Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar of SRMIST; Dr. Paromita Chakraborty, Professor and Head of the Centre for Research in Environment, Sustainability Advocacy and Climate Change (REACH); Dr. Deiva Preetha, Associate Professor, Department of Computational Intelligence (CINTEL); Dr. Selvakumarasamy, Associate Professor, CINTEL; Dr. Arun C, Assistant Professor, CINTEL; and Dr. Anupama CG, Assistant Director, Office of International Relations, SRM Institute of Science and Technology.

The KMU delegation was led by Prof. Sodio Hsu, Dean of the College of Life Sciences, Prof. Wei-Yu Lin, Chair of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, and Prof. Vinoth Kumar Ponnusamy, Director of International Affairs and Research, College of Life Sciences, and Professor of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, along with faculty members and colleagues from CLS and DMAC.

During the academic discussion, both institutions engaged in productive exchanges on several key areas of mutual interest, including collaborative research opportunities in chemistry, life sciences, environmental science, computational intelligence, and healthcare technologies. Particular emphasis was placed on emerging interdisciplinary areas involving Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in chemistry and life sciences, such as AI-driven analytical chemistry, cheminformatics, metabolomics, lipidomics, biomedical data analytics, environmental monitoring, predictive modeling, and precision medicine.

The meeting also explored opportunities for student exchange programs, dual-degree initiatives, academic mobility, internship programs, joint research projects, scientific publications, and collaborative funding opportunities. Both institutions expressed strong interest in fostering long-term institutional partnerships to support interdisciplinary research and global academic engagement.

Prof. Sodio Hsu welcomed the SRMIST delegation and emphasized the importance of strengthening international collaborations in life sciences and healthcare research. Prof. Wei-Yu Lin highlighted the potential for joint initiatives between the institutions, particularly in medicinal chemistry, translational science, and interdisciplinary education. Prof. Vinoth Kumar Ponnusamy facilitated discussions on future collaborative research directions, including AI-assisted analytical technologies, sustainable chemistry, environmental health, and biomedical innovation.

The visit concluded with mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to developing sustainable academic partnerships between KMU and SRMIST. Both institutions expressed optimism regarding future collaborations that will promote faculty and student exchanges, innovative research, and global educational opportunities.

This academic visit represents another important milestone in KMU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international engagement and foster impactful global collaborations in chemistry, life sciences, and emerging healthcare technologies.
