The 2026 International Conference on Frontier Chemistry and Life Sciences (ICFCLS-2026) was successfully held on March 25, 2026, at the Audio-Visual Center, Li-Hsueh Building, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. The conference brought together leading scientists, academicians, and industry experts from around the world, providing a dynamic platform for advancing interdisciplinary research in chemistry, biotechnology, and life sciences.
The conference was opened by Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, President of Kaohsiung Medical University, and was also attended by Senior Vice-President Prof. Yeou-Lih Huang. In his opening remarks, President Yu emphasized that the integration of fundamental science with biomedical applications is a core mission of both research and teaching at Kaohsiung Medical University. President Yu expressed his hope that the long‑established ICFCLS will continue to serve as a strong foundation for high‑quality and in‑depth academic exchanges.
ICFCLS-2026 was distinguished by its strong international participation, featuring eminent speakers from multiple countries. The conference opened with a keynote lecture delivered by Academician Shang-Cheng Hung (Academia Sinica, Taiwan), who presented innovative research on synthetic cell-surface carbohydrates for disease diagnosis and prevention, highlighting Taiwan’s leadership in glycoscience.
In addition, Prof. John Gibertson (Western Washington University, USA) discussed bioinorganic strategies for transforming environmental pollutants. From India, Prof. C. Rajasekaran, Dean of Academic Research at VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology), delivered a keynote presentation on secondary metabolite elicitation and its future applications, demonstrating the potential of biotechnology in agriculture and sustainable development. From the industry sector, Dr. Dar-Jen Hsieh, Chairman and CEO of ACRO Biomedical Co., Ltd. (Taiwan), shared insights into translational regenerative medicine, bridging the gap between scientific innovation and real-world biomedical applications.
Experts from Taiwan, including Academia Sinica, National Taiwan Normal University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, and KMU, also presented cutting-edge work in medicinal chemistry, biomedical sciences, nanotechnology, and food science innovation. From Japan, Dr. Tatsuto Fukushima (Eisai Co., Ltd.) introduced recent advances in Alzheimer’s disease therapeutics. These diverse contributions underscored the conference’s commitment to fostering global collaboration and scientific innovation.
The conference sessions were expertly guided by distinguished moderators—Prof. Wei-Yu Lin, Prof. Pei-Feng Liu, Prof. Wei-Ting Liao, and Prof. Vinoth Kumar—whose leadership ensured seamless coordination, maintained scientific rigor, and facilitated engaging, high-quality discussions across all thematic areas.
Structured across four thematic sessions—Medicinal and Applied Chemistry; Biomedical Science and Environmental Biology; Biotechnology; and Multidisciplinary Life Sciences—the conference highlighted key advances such as synthetic carbohydrates for disease diagnosis, bioinorganic approaches to environmental remediation, microbial bioremediation of pharmaceutical residues, regenerative medicine, precision agriculture technologies, and nanomaterials for diagnostics. These discussions collectively addressed pressing global challenges in healthcare, sustainability, and advanced materials science. The Multidisciplinary Life Sciences session, moderated by Prof. Vinoth Kumar, particularly emphasized integrative approaches that bridge chemistry, biology, and emerging technologies to tackle complex global challenges.
ICFCLS-2026 successfully fostered academic networking and international partnerships, bringing together participants from Asia, North America, and beyond, and creating valuable opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation, and academic exchange. The conference concluded with a closing ceremony led by Dean Prof. Sodio C. N. Hsu, followed by a banquet celebrating the event’s success.
ICFCLS-2026 marks a significant milestone in promoting frontier research and global scientific dialogue. The organizers extend their sincere gratitude to all speakers, moderators, participants, and collaborators for their valuable contributions and look forward to future editions that will continue to advance innovation in chemistry and life sciences.
