Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) College of Life Sciences Dean Sodio C. N. Hsu and Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry chair Wei-Yu Lin attended the Asia-Pacific Annual Conference of Educators (APAIE) held in New Delhi, India from March 24 to 28, 2025. Themed "Cultivating Global Citizens: The Future Mission of Higher Education in the Asia Pacific and the World," this annual conference brings together global education experts and scholars to discuss the forward-looking development of higher education.
Kaohsiung Medical University has long been deeply rooted in the New Southbound countries and has established a reputation for outstanding higher education research cooperation in places such as India. Its alumni are spread across many well-known universities in the New Southbound countries. At this annual meeting, Dean Sodio C. N. Hsu showcased KMU’s achievements in promoting biological sciences and chemical technology under the New Southbound Policy. Since 2016, KMU has actively participated in the New Southbound Life Science and Chemistry higher education cooperation and industry chain development plan, committed to improving the level of biological science and chemical technology in countries such as India, assisting in local talent cultivation through professional training and technical exchanges, and signing cooperation memoranda with relevant research institutions and universities.
Department chair Wei-Yu Lin emphasized the contribution of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry chair Wei-Yu Lin to the Ministry of Education's "Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP)." Through Chinese language preparatory courses and industry-university cooperation classes, the program attracts outstanding students from the Asia-Pacific region to study and work in Taiwan, thereby promoting international talent mobility. In addition, under the leadership of Dean Sodio C. N. Hsu, the College of Life Sciences has applied to the Ministry of Education to establish an "International Master's Program for Talent Cultivation in Chemistry and Biomedical Industries (INTENSE Program)" to provide internships and living allowances in fields such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in cooperation with companies, requiring graduates to stay in Taiwan to work in order to meet industry needs.
During this conference, Kaohsiung Medical University exchanged ideas with education and technology experts from various countries, deepened technological cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, promoted global mobility of higher education talents, and opened up new opportunities for the development of biological sciences and chemical technology in the New Southbound countries.
